A week after The Players Foundation launched the second round of Student Living Expenses Grants, the charity has already received a high number of applications.
The grants are aimed at supporting former professional footballers and scholars who are making the move into full-time university education, by helping to alleviate the financial burden of day-to-day living costs.
David Harrison, Chief Executive of The Players Foundation, said: ‘A lot of these players won’t have been able to accumulate any wealth during their limited experience in the game. It’s really important for their futures that we give them as much support as we can, so they’re able to benefit from the education that they’re going through.
‘Some players can feel a sense of failure at this stage, and I think we have a duty to help them look for another path in their life.’
David added: ‘League Football Education (LFE) has done some great work in this area. We’re here to support them and help the players directly by offering Student Living Expenses Grants, which allow beneficiaries to focus on their studies and prepare for successful post-football careers.’
The Foundation will be working closely with LFE and other partners over the coming weeks to spread awareness of the grants. Online applications remain open until the end of October.
