The Players Foundation today announced the appointment of two former Premier League footballers – Simon Haworth and Rob Milsom – as the charity’s new Beneficiary Liaison Officers.
The Foundation offers charitable support to current and former professional footballers and scholars. Both Simon and Rob will provide an essential link between the work of the Foundation and former players across the country.
Simon Haworth is a former Wales international striker who earned five full caps for his country during a 10-year playing career. His club experience took him to Coventry City, Wigan Athletic and Tranmere Rovers, before his career was cut short by injury.
Simon is now qualified in counselling and psychotherapy and has extensive experience of advising ex-footballers and other professional athletes on post-playing challenges, particularly around gambling awareness initiatives.
Rob Milsom spent 20 years as a professional footballer and coach, with playing experience at a number of clubs including Fulham, Aberdeen, Notts County and Rotherham United. During a four-year spell at Notts County, he was named the players and fans player of the year in 2016-17.
Rob harnessed his knowledge of the game through his previous role as Academy Coach at Fulham, where he was responsible for the delivery of the club’s alumni work experience programme. Rob has a special interest in developing and mentoring young players, alongside a strong commitment to supporting sport in the community.
Brendon Batson OBE, Chairman of The Players Foundation, said: ‘The Board of Trustees is delighted to welcome Simon and Rob to the Foundation as our Beneficiary Liaison Officers. Their combined knowledge and expertise within the professional game will prove invaluable to us, as we strive to support ex-players and scholars in the best way possible.’
