Foundation unveils support for academy graduates on USA development initiative

The Players Foundation today announced its support for League Football Education (LFE) in delivering its Global Showcase and Development programme in the USA.

Twenty graduates of English Football League (EFL) academies have arrived in Tampa Bay, Florida, for a unique 10-day experience, which is also backed by US Sports Scholarships, the United Soccer League (USL) and Varsity Nine.

The visit offers the opportunity for young footballers who have recently completed their two-year apprenticeships at EFL academies to further both their careers and their personal development.

There will be the chance to explore potential long-term football careers in America, while creating sustainable routes for future academy graduates who are not offered professional contracts in the UK.

Participants will take part in training sessions at the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ Water Sports Complex, led by professional coaches. They will also represent the LFE’s All-Star squad at the USL Academy Finals Tournament at IMG Academy, where top-tier scouts will be watching every game.

In addition, the players will further develop their employability and life skills, while navigating new cultural environments.

Brendon Batson, Chairman of The Players Foundation, said: ‘We are delighted to be joining other partners in supporting LFE’s Global Showcase and Development Programme in the United States. The Foundation is keenly aware of the enormous challenges facing young players, particularly when they leave the game at an unexpectedly early age. This ambitious initiative provides a range of excellent opportunities and I look forward to seeing the results.’
