The Board of Trustees at The Players Foundation has announced the appointment of David Harrison as the charity’s new CEO, taking over from the retiring Stephen Claus.
David is a hugely experienced and highly respected senior executive in the world of football, having previously held the position of Director of Football Operations at both Manchester United and Everton.
With more than 30 years’ experience in the game, David’s previous role at Manchester United included the management of all football operations at the Carrington training ground, with responsibility for the men’s, women’s and academy teams, and a key focus on football administration and player support.
As a senior executive at Everton, David played a crucial role in the life of the club’s official charity, Everton in the Community. He was also part of the leadership team that oversaw the Toffees’ move from Goodison Park to the new £600 million Hill Dickinson stadium.
Brendon Batson OBE, Chairman of The Players Foundation, said: ‘On behalf of the Trustees, I am delighted that David Harrison will be leading The Players Foundation, building on the excellent work of his predecessor, Stephen Claus, over the last four years. We know that David’s in-depth knowledge of the professional game and his experience of working closely with players, managers and club charities, will be essential in delivering our strategy.’
On his appointment, David said: ‘I believe this is an exciting time for The Players Foundation and I’m thrilled to be taking up the position of CEO. The Foundation has an important role in providing critical support to current and former professional footballers and scholars, who find themselves in charitable need. I am looking forward to working alongside our staff and partners to ensure that our beneficiaries get the best possible advice and support, when they need it most.’
