We’re proud to introduce the Student Living Expense Grant — an initiative designed to support current and former professional footballers as they transition into full-time university education.
Following the success of last year’s Educational Resources Fund, this new grant builds on our commitment to providing meaningful, targeted support where it’s needed most. The strong demand for educational assistance highlighted a clear gap — not just in tuition support, but in covering the day-to-day costs that come with studying.
The Student Living Expense Grant has been created to help bridge that gap.
The grant is designed to ease the financial pressures associated with student life — including essentials such as rent, utilities and food — enabling beneficiaries to focus fully on their studies and future career development.
As an independent charity, The Players Foundation is dedicated to supporting players beyond their time in the game. By expanding our educational support offering, we aim to provide timely, practical assistance that empowers individuals to succeed both during and after their football careers.
The grant is available to eligible current and former professional footballers who:
This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to helping players prepare for life after football, reducing financial barriers and increasing access to higher education.
Brendon Batson OBE, Chairman of The Players Foundation, said:
“The Student Living Expense Grant reinforces our commitment to supporting players beyond the game. Preparing for a second career is essential, and this fund is designed to support those taking that important step into higher education.
If this opportunity could benefit you or someone you know, I encourage you to apply as soon as possible. The process is straightforward — don’t miss out on this valuable support.”
Applications for the upcoming intake open in September, with a limited window to apply. We encourage all eligible individuals to submit their applications early to avoid missing out.
