Brendon Batson sees 2026 as a ‘year of opportunity’ for the Foundation

The Chairman of The Players Foundation, Brendon Batson OBE, believes 2026 will be a year of strong growth for the charity, with partnerships and engagement across the football family at the heart of the organisation’s priorities.

Brendon said: ‘The Trustees are delighted with the Foundation’s progress in the last 12 months, and we see this year as the key to our future ambitions. Reaching out to more potential beneficiaries is fundamental to promoting the breadth of the support available to current and former professional footballers, and scholars.’

As part of its new strategy, the Board has recruited a PR Adviser and two Beneficiary Liaison Officers in the last six months, with the aim of driving awareness of the Foundation and to consolidate the charity’s reputation.

‘We are continuing to develop our activity on social media, enhance the content of our website and meet members of former player associations face-to-face. The BLOs have a crucial role to play in direct engagement with ex-pros and I’m delighted to say that their efforts have already been well received.’

Recent initiatives including the Student Living Expense Grant and Christmas Food Support have drawn positive feedback from beneficiaries. Brendon added: ‘It’s a hugely exciting time for The Players Foundation. While we can’t do everything, we are here to help and look forward to creating future programmes alongside our partners, that meet the needs of former players and scholars.’
