Useful definitions:

Charitable objectives: The aim and purpose of the charity as defined within a charity’s governing document. Ours can be found here

Beneficiaries: Those who we can help. The Players Foundation beneficiaries are predominantly current and former professional footballers from within the Premier League and Football League in England and Wales. This is defined in our governing document as:

  • trainee professional footballers;
  • young persons registered with professional football academies associated with a club or centres of excellence associated with a club wishing to pursue a career as a professional footballer;
  • former trainee professional footballers;
  • professional footballers;
  • former professional footballers

Financial hardship: The possibility of losing your home due to mortgage or rent arrears, having bailiffs sent in or other equally serious financial problems.

The Trustees of The Players Foundation want to ensure that the charity can support its beneficiaries both now and in the future.

The Trustees therefore manage the funds of the charity to maximise income and ensure charity funds are applied across the issues facing our beneficiaries in line with our strategy.

There is no entitlement for help. Trustees impose financial criteria thresholds and individual beneficiary limits on all applications to ensure funds are directed to those most in need.

All financial assistance is provided to meet a charitable need.

Support with bathroom adaptations

“Further to the support you kindly provided to my father in the form of the financial support for the new downstairs bathroom: Just to let you know I was home over Christmas and New Year. The new bathroom is now complete and to let you know that it has made such a difference to my Dad. No more rushing, stress or accidents. We can't thank you enough for your support. It really has made such a positive difference to him.“

Support with welfare rights

“Just dropping you a quick email to declare my thanks for your assistance regarding my Industrial Injury Benefit case. The hearing was earlier today, and I was grateful to finally get things off my chest & I believe it went well whatever the outcome. I was assisted by Mark Skinner who was absolutely fantastic, both in today’s hearing and also being immensely helpful in helping me prepare. He was knowledgeable, calming and definitely helped me when I was out of my comfort zone. I am truly grateful for all of the assistance from you and Mark.“
